• Why does the water meter need to be replaced?
The Augusta County Service Authority (ACSA) replaced most of its water meters between 1997 and 2002.  Water meters have a life expectancy of 15 to 20 years. As a meter reaches the end of its life, it has a higher risk of failure and may not fully measure all usage.  By replacing the meter, customers receive the most accurate readings of their water usage and earlier detection of leaks.  Additionally, the ACSA is able to better account for and manage our water resources.
  • What is Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)?
AMI is a meter reading technology that allows the ACSA to collect meter readings without physically visiting each meter.  Specifically, the ACSA is installing a cellular reading system from Badger Meter with this meter replacement project.  The cellular-read meter transmits the readings back to the ACSA for leak detection and billing using existing cell phone towers.
  • Who will install the new system?
The ACSA has contracted the meter installation to Bitter Creek, LLC a local construction company who has recently installed water meters for the City of Waynesboro.  Vehicles will have magnetic decals identifying them as ACSA contractors.  Installers will carry proper identification, and have NO need to enter homes nor will they be asking for any form of payment.  If you have any questions about work in your area, please call Customer Service at 540-245-5681.
  • When will my meter be replaced?
Bitter Creek, LLC will notify ACSA customers at least 48 hours prior to meter replacement, by hanging a blue door tag. Once the meter has been replaced, Bitter Creek, LLC will notify customers with a green door tag stating the meter has been replaced. When installing the new meter, water service may be interrupted for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Is there anything I have to do to prepare for the installation?
It is not necessary to be home when the replacement is performed. Once you receive a blue door tag, it would be helpful to clear/trim any landscaping from around the meter area.  Bitter Creek, LLC will trim bushes and clear any landscaping, as needed, to access the meter box. Please ensure vehicles are not parked on top of the meter box and keep all children and pets out of the area when the installation crew is performing the replacement.
